Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous Wiki: WotR is the second PC game set in the Pathfinder universe after the release of Pathfinder: Kingmaker back in 2018. It tells a new story – about the part of the world that was captured by demons 100 years ago, and to this day, people try to withstand the demonic assault. The story is being told in a classical CRPG fashion, with a lot of choices and consequences. We are exploring the theme of waging war against the supernatural forces for 100 years, with all the impact it has on the people living in this world. Would they bow down to this force and get corrupted by the demons? Or will they manage to stay strong and sometimes even redeem themselves from evil? Another interesting theme is the cost of wielding the power that can end this conflict and the behavior it provokes. Will you try to risk everything to save every person, or will you be trying to solve the problem without thinking about the collateral damage?
About WotR
The game is based on the Adventure Path of the same name. We are making the game with the same approach that we used for Pathfinder: Kingmaker – we are considering ourselves the GMs for our audience, so we tweak the story, add additional elements and side quests. The most significant change in this particular case was adding the possibility to play by characters of any alignment (not just the mostly good-aligned party).
Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is available on PC (Windows, Mac OSX) with the release date currently being set on September 2, 2021 - Owlcat Games has also announced that Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous will be coming to PlayStation®4, Xbox One, and the current-gen PlayStation®5 and Xbox Series X|S through backward compatibility sometime in Autumn 2021.
Mythic Paths
Paizo introduced Mythic character progression specifically for this Adventure Path. This progression is an additional layer of the character building that allows players to make truly powerful characters capable of taking on Demon Lords and similarly powerful entities. Our version of the Mythic Paths is more thematical. Each Mythic Path is profoundly affecting both the story and the gameplay of thecharacter. We have introduced eight of them:
- Angel is a general of celestial armies, able to summon angels to fight by their side and heal
and protect their allies. - Lich is an immortal undead, a master of necromancy who will ultimately be able to replace
their companions with the undead minions under their command. - Aeon is a cosmic judge of balance with the ability to change the current timeline. They can
sense where the balance is broken and correct it, usually punishing the perpetrator in the
process. - Trickster is a Loki-type character who loves to have fun and play jokes on even the
mightiest creatures. They can trick the rules that govern the world to gain unimaginable
powers. - Demon is a raging beast whose desire is to become the rightful ruler of the Abyss. They can
choose to sink into a demonic rage and rip their enemies apart with their bare hands. The
Demon Lords shall bow to their power! - Azata is a rebel and a fighter for freedom and good. A superhero of sorts, that protects
innocents against demons and purifies the land of corruption. - Swarm-That-Walks is an incarnation of anger, allowing the character to become one with
the swarm of locusts and consume everything that stands in their way. - Gold Dragon is a protector of the lesser races, wise and merciful. A defender of Golarion,
they can stagger even the greatest foes with their roar alone and guide those who are lost. - Devilsare lawful evil outsiders that hail from the plane of Hell. Masters of corruption and despoilers of purity, devils seek to destroy all things good and drag mortal souls back with them to the depths of Hell.
Crusades & Turn-Based Mode
At a certain point in the game, the player will be appointed as the Commander of the Fifth Crusade. And that means that they will not be only adventuring, but building their forces, solving significant issues, make critical decisions about the development of the crusade. The vital part is recruiting the armies and sending them to fight demons across the world map. Battles will not be as detailed as Total War battles, more like in old-school strategy games, Warlords, for example. Players will be reclaiming the lands from the demons and finding relics of the previous crusades that can serve them and improve the equipment of their characters.
Although the game is designed and balanced with RTWP (real-time with pause), our team will develop a turn-based mode to reinforce the tabletop immersion and give players the option to experience a play session almost identical to the tabletop version. They will be able to switch modes back and forth on the fly, without the need for reloading location. We are going to reveal more details on the turn-based mode later.
